Are wet-to-straight straighteners bad for your hair?

I have a wet to straight, and i use it every other day on 20 (the highest setting is 30). I haven't really noticed any difference from a regular straightener, but my friends (none of them are professional hairdressers, btw) all say that steaming your hair is extremely unhealthy for it. I thought that because the heat is only in direct contact with the water, not your hair, that it's actually more healthy than blowdrying then straightening it dry, but I could be wrong. It wouldnt be the first time. So am I ruining my hair?

Yes, u are. be very careful with them. you should never ever use a wet to dry straigthner, because all you are doing is burnng your hair and drying it out. You will be doing damage to it no matter how you straighten it, but the best way to keep it healthy is to use a good brand ceramic tiled straightner, it will cost you a fortune, but it will last you a lifetime and it will do the best job for your hair.

ALWAYS use a heat protector, apply this when the hair is damp, it will put a protective coating over it. then always dry your hair off before you straighten.

Make sure that you always section your hair off when u do it, because if you keep going over the same parts, you will burn it and dry it out.

Tips: For flyaways sfter its done, apply some hairspray to a flat folded tissue and just run it down your hair. this will straighten it out without the flyaways and not look greasy or clumpy.

when you straighten it always do it with a comb, so it is even and you dont go over the same parts. By just grabbing it randomly you will do damage and make it look clumpy.

Yes, it weakens the hair, and steams it, almost ruining it. Blowdrying first is a lot better.

um it is worse 4 ur hair it is really internally frying i had a wet to dry straightner, then i swiches to a blowdryer and a reg straightner and it makes my hair shinier u should swich

i have the same thing, and i love it, but i do a bit of blow drying a bit, just because when the steam burns my skin ...it kinda hurts, besides you wash in hot water, do hot oil treatments, so i don't think it could be all that bad, but I'm not a hair dresser either, you could call a salon and ask...

ive heard that wet to straight straighteners are very bad for your hair so i haven't had the guts to try it. i use Revlon Stylix it works great for me and very little damage. if you haven't noticed a difference it is probably fine for your hair. Different peoples hair acts differently to different straighteners.

i used the remington wet to straight iron on my hair everyday altho i make sure that i used a good conditioner or a creme styler so it keeps the moisture in and doesnt wreak havoc on my hair. my hairs wicked soft and really healthy.

My mom went to beauty school and she said that any heat on your hair can be harmful.But the steam you see coming from the wet to straight is evapration from it drying.If you dye your hair alot and or have a lot of chemical damage She wouldnt reccomend that you use it.But other than that its fine.Your not going to ruin your hair with that straightner.

all heat ruins your hair. but the best straightner for your hair is a ceramic one. they are expensive, but they work better. and reduce frizzys. get one that has infa-red on it to. that is like a blow dryer. so you can dry your hair with it. and it wont hurt is as bad. ANY metal straightner will ruin your hair.

I have the wet to dry, and the first day i used it my hair felt different.

Also, I've found that blow drying and then straightening is actually faster then using the wet to dry.

I have hard to straighten hair, and I use a wet to dry iron often. I did invest in a good quality flat iron, as the inexpensive did not do the job. I asked my hair dresser about it and she told be that as long as I use the lowest setting that works (and it sounds like you do) it will do no more damage than a regular flat iron. No heating tools are *good* for your hair, so if you are using them make sure that you get regular trims to deal with split ends, and use a good conditioning treatment.

I do this too, but I use a good product for use in heat styling. It's from Nexxus and it's in a spray bottle. (I'd go check but I'm not at home) So far, I haven't had a problem, but this is something I'd like to hear more about myself. My hair is already damaged, but it hasn't gotten worse.

i do hair. and yeah. its not good to straighten ur hair while wet/damp. if u hear a sizzling/popping sound when ur straightening ur hair, its burning it! ALWAYS blow dry ur hair first, then run a straightener through it. that product only sells bcoz it will sell better if its more convienent for the consumer. (cut styling time in half by not having to blow dry) the faster way isnt always the better way, espeacially in straightening hair!
