Tips on dyeing my hair?

My hair is naturally curly, and a golden blonde color. It's cut in layers, the longest one going about halfway down my back. i want to put blue streaks in the lower layers of my hair. But, i want to do all of my research before i dye it, so i dont screw up my hair permanently. Some of the things that i need to know...

-how does dye affect curly hair? I have heard everything, from it will damage your hair for good, to if it is healthy then it won't do anything.

-Will permanent color stay in my hair? I read somewhere that it won't because of the texture of curly hair. But, it was the internet, and i only saw it once, so i dont know if it's true or not.

-Will it bleed into the rest of my hair once i wash it? Since my hair color is light will it turn the rest of my hair blue too?

Any other advice that you have to give would be appreciated. Thanx!

Naturally curly hair is slightly weaker than straight hair, but dying it usually doesn't pose a problem. My hair is naturally curly and it's been every color in the aisle (except blue). The only thing I've noticed is that the dyed/highlighted curls are looser than normal for a few days.

Permanent color will stay, it just might fade after several shampoos. To prevent fading, try a color maintaining shampoo/conditioner.

If you're worried about it bleeding (which shouldn't occur because the contact won't last long enough to dye) seperate your blonde locks from your blue ones when rinsing and shampoo it together after the water runs clear.

no, it does not matter if your hair is curly or not. if your hair is previously damaged from dyeing it the it will continue to get worse if you do not let your hair rest.

if you want to do blue in your hair you should bleach the section of you hair that you want blue.

and if you get blue on your other hair it will turn blue too if you have light hair or bleached hair.

and your hair will hold color just as much as anyone elses hair would. it doesnt matter if its curly. but i kno from experience that having blue hair or an unnatral color does not stay long so youd have to keep putting color in it to keep it bright.

id use manic panic or color effects on it.

to keep it in longer wash your hair with cold water and not warm

hope i helpd

The texture isn't the main thing to worry about when COLORING hair. You need to know your porosity (the ability to absorb and retain moisture). Typically, curly hair has a bit more of an issue with porosity because the disulfide bonds in the hair don't lay directly accross from each other in the hair shaft. This usually causes the hair to be a little more brittle and dry. However, it doesn't really matter if your hair is curly or straight for it to take color.

In my professional opinion, I don't think blue would compliment your natural color very well. I could see Black and Blue, or even dark brown and blue.

If you color your hair blue and you don't have a porosity issue, than you shouldn't have any problems with it staying in, however, if you have to lighten (bleach) your hair to get it to accept the blue, it will fade within about a week or two and look like a very light blue. The only time I have ever been successful coloring hair blue, is if I bleached the hair to a pale yellow and then used a blue intensifier to boost the blue in. I only did that on a guy because I knew that he cuts his hair every two weeks and if he didn't like it or if it faded, he wouldn't have to live with it for very long. In any even, the color should not melt into the rest of your hair unless you don't rinse the color out properly, or if you get the haircolor on the rest of your hair. It sounds to me like it would be a very high maintenance type of service to have done on your hair.

BTW: corrective color in a salon usually begins at $150.00 an hour.

Well, if your hair is naturally golden blonde, i sincerely would NOT recommend you putting blue dye in it!! Yellow and blue make green.... hence you will be very disappointed in the results, unless you don't mind green hair, and dye is permanent. As far as dye damaging your hair because it is naturally curly....this is absolutely FALSE. Curly hair is very much so capable of be dyed. There are other alternatives if you are still a bit undecided. You may opt for blue hair extensions. This way you are not commited to the color and you wont have to worry about the effect it will have on your hair. Good Luck!

Dye does not affect ur hair.i have died it b4 and it did nothing to my curly hair. permanent dye stays in 4 about 4-6 months.my momhas to dye her hair cause she is upsessed with having her hair red.it will not.it stays were u dye ur hair.it does not run.some containers come with a spe4cial tube of shampoo.u should use it.i didnt once and my hair wasnt as good as it could be.Good Luck.

Tips on dyeing my hair?

No. Dying curly hair is identical to dying straight hair! Whatever you are reading is false. Also, you need to get the streaks done professionally in a hair salon. And no, it won't bleed through to the rest of your hair! More bunk. So feel good and dye it!

Tips on dyeing my hair?

my hair is similar to yours by the sound of it (curly and blonde), and i have dyed my hair many of times, though not blue. my hair was never affected, even though i have heard that curly hair often is, i think it is just a rumor, so it would probably work, but i am not totally sure cause i am a guy, so who knows if that would affect it. If you have any more questions, you can just ask a hair stylist.
